ABSTRACT

The collection of indubitable samples when a corpus of handwriting is taken from a person is an extremely important process in handwriting expertise. There are parameters by which handwriting experts are governed when making such a writing corpus, which generally focus on the position of the scribe, writing speed, spontaneity, number of samples, among others. However, the scribe may try to alter or manipulate it in different ways, usually in an attempt to hinder the expert's work. Thus, there are several elements that indicate to a handwriting expert that an attempt is being made to modify the handwriting or signature during this process from a technical point of view. In this sense, the aim of this study is to highlight the importance of compiling a handwriting corpus with all the guarantees that it can be treated as an unquestionable document, as well as highlighting the importance of the expert having the ability to confirm the scribe's sincerity, both through the analysis of their handwriting (graphology) and through the analysis of their non-verbal communication at the time of writing. A qualitative methodology has been used, using the documentary information technique, by means of the collection of information for study and analysis, as well as monographs, study manuals and scientific articles.

ABSTRACT

A primeira pesquisa retornou 1273 referências únicas.

Introduction: The endotracheal tube blocks the vocal folds when the patient is ventilated, making speech impossible. Many patients report that they struggle to make themselves understood. Patients in intensive care units are generally more aware and alert when they are on mechanical ventilation than in previous years because of the many potential benefits of being under less sedation. Objective: To evaluate prior knowledge about interaction and communication between health professionals and conscious patients and alerts under mechanical ventilation in intensive care units. Method: This is a literature review following the steps of an integrative review. Studies published between 2017 and 2022 have been identified in tools and databases: Scielo, Lilacs, Ibecs, Medline and PubMed. The first survey returned 1273 unique references. The inclusion criteria consisted of empirical studies or studies related to interactions between health professionals and patients over 18 years of age on mechanical ventilation, written in English, Spanish or Portuguese. ABSTRACT

Abstract (analytical) The objective of this systematic literature review was to inquire about the differential contribution of socioeconomic environment to the capacity for verbal and non-verbal communication in the first three years of life. Empirical research articles from the last 30 years in normally developing infants were reviewed. In general, lower levels were identified among infants from vulnerable contexts in terms of speech development f and expressive and productive communication . However, the results were inconsistent in the area of non-verbal communication. It is concluded that more studies should be carried out with direct behavioral measures in relation to non-verbal communication in order to alleviate existing inconsistencies for the current results in this field.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

Regarded as one of the most complex facial expressions, the smile is the product of several emotional manifestations and presents relevant sexual differences. This study aimed to compare the frequency of smile between men and women during speech, based on the dynamic observation of the display of the upper dental arch. The sample consisted of 88 participants (41 men and 47 women), who were invited to describe selected images, being filmed during the procedure. From the recordings, the frequency of display of the upper dental arches was measured using a slow motion (4.0x slow) feature and compared using Student's t-test. The results show a higher frequency among women (M = 23; SD = 8.22), compared to men (M = 12; SD = 6.76), with a statistically significant difference (t = 6.44; p <0 , 0001). It was not possible to define the determinants that promoted these results. However, evolutionary, cognitive and sociocultural factors that contribute to a more important understanding of this facial expression are explained. (AU)

(AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract There is evidence of a strong association between the pointing gesture and early vocabulary acquisition. This study examined the extent to which this association is moderated by the communicative function of children's pointing. A total of 35 children participated in the study. Their use of the pointing gesture and their expressive vocabulary were assessed at 13 and 18 months using the Early Social Communication Scales and the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory, respectively. The results of multiple linear regression analyses indicated that variations in the frequency of declarative pointing at 13 months significantly contributed to variations in vocabulary size at both 13 and 18 months, independently of variations in maternal education. In contrast, variations in the frequency of imperative pointing did not concurrently or longitudinally correlate with children's vocabulary sizes. These results suggest that the relation between pointing and early vocabulary acquisition is moderated by the communicative function of the pointing gesture.

Participaram do estudo 35 crianças.

ABSTRACT

@#Patient communication is highly regarded as one of the basis of health care and an important part of practice in the application of radiographic procedures. Good communication is necessary in medical imaging if optimum diagnostic images are to be achieved. This study is a prospective assessment on the effectiveness of communication among radiographers and patients during general radiographic procedures at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH). Questionnaires were administered to 100 patients and 15 radiographers using a quantitative approach for data collection. Informed consent was obtained from each of the participants, after obtaining ethical clearance from the authorities. The responses in the questionnaires were recorded in Excel Spread sheet. The data was statistically analysed using Microsoft Excel 2013. A majority (78%) of the patients reported that there were no communication problems while more than half (57%) expressed satisfaction with the radiographic services that were provided. A majority (67%) of radiographers reported that language barrier was the cause of communication problems during radiographic procedures. The result indicated that although there was communication between radiographers and patients, the most common factor affecting effective communication was language barrier.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Gestural communication, understood as the use of non-verbal gestures before the word appears, is a strength in children with Down syndrome (DS). OBJECTIVE: To describe com munication development behaviors in children with DS, before and after gestural communication training, based on the "Signs, words and games" workshops of the Baby Signs® program. SUBJECTS AND METHOD: Prospective study of children with DS between 18 and 22 months of cognitive age, who were trained in gestural communication according to the "Baby Signs®" methodology, evaluating communication skills through the MacArthur inventory adapted for children with DS (Communica tive Development Inventories, CDI-DS), analyzing the scores before and three months after the in tervention. The evaluated items were: Early comprehension, First sentences comprehension, Starting to speak, Vocabulary list, and Decontextualized language use (part 1) and total, early and late gestures (part 2). RESULTS: 21 children completed the workshops, with an average chronological age of 27.5 months and 19.8 months of cognitive age. 29% of the participants increased their scores in sentence comprehension, 62% in vocabulary production with gestures, 33% improved in vocabulary compre hension, 57% lost early gestures, and 43% increased late gestures production. CONCLUSIONS: Gestural communication training favors the communication skills development in a group of children with DS, mainly in the initial understanding and gesture production. There is important inter-individual variability, therefore is necessary to consider child to child recommendations.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective: Compare the non-verbal communication of children before and during interaction with clowns and compare their vital signs before and after this interaction. Methods: Uncontrolled, intervention, cross-sectional, quantitative study with children admitted to a public university hospital. The intervention was performed by medical students dressed as clowns and included magic tricks, juggling, singing with the children, making soap bubbles and comedic performances. The intervention time was 20min. Vital signs were assessed in two measurements with an interval of 1min immediately before and after the interaction. Non-verbal communication was observed before and during the interaction using the Non-Verbal Communication Template Chart, a tool in which non-verbal behaviors are assessed as effective or ineffective in the interactions. Results: The sample consisted of 41 children with a mean age of 7.6±2.7 years; most were aged 7-11 years (n=23; 56%) and were males (n=26; 63.4%). There was a statistically significant difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pain and non-verbal behavior of children with the intervention. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure increased and pain scales showed decreased scores. Conclusions: The playful interaction with clowns can be a therapeutic resource to minimize the effects of the stressing environment during the intervention, improve the children's emotional state and reduce the perception of pain.

ABSTRACT

Good communication skills are essential for an optimal doctor-patient relationship, and also contribute to improved health outcomes. Although the need for training in communication skills is stated as a requirement in the 1997 Graduate Medical Education Regulations of the Medical Council of India, formal training in these skills has been fragmentary and non-uniform in most Indian curricula. The "Vision 2015" document of the Medical Council of India reaffirms the need to include training in communication skills in the MBBS curriculum. Training in communication skills needs approaches which are different from that of teaching other clinical subjects. It is also a challenge to ensure that students not only imbibe the nuances of communication and interpersonal skills, but adhere to them throughout their careers. This article addresses the possible ways of standardizing teaching and assessment of communication skills and integrating them into the existing curriculum.

ABSTRACT

<p>The DOLOPLUS-2 scale was developed by Bernard Wary in 1992, and is a behavioral pain assessment scale for elderly individuals with verbal communication disorders. The scale comprises 10 items divided into 3 sub-groups. Each item has four levels of pain intensity, with scores ranging from 0 to 3. A score of ≥5 (out of a maximum of 30) indicates the presence of pain. In 2007, our team translated this scale from French into Japanese, and the translated version was validated in 2012. In this manuscript, I discuss the introduction and use of this scale based on the results of our research.</p>

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The goal of rehabilitation for advanced cancer patients is to improve their quality of life (QOL). The meaning of QOL can only be determined by an individual patient. Rehabilitation begins with exploring the patient's hope. Here, we report a case suffering to express hope with difficulties by terminal stage lung cancer with brain metastases. Case: An 83-year-old male who was diagnosed with lung cancer (adenocarcinoma) and brain metastases admitted to palliative care unit because of progressive disease against chemo-radiotherapy. On admission, he could eat independently and walk to bathroom with slight assistance. A few weeks later, he had an epileptic seizure, right-hemiplegia and disturbance of consciousness. This episode made it drastically difficult for us to communicate orally with him. And, we tried hard to know the patient's hope by assessment using activities of daily living (ADL) observation and non-verbal communications. He revealed to be eager to eat even in a PS grade 4. He sometimes could talk a few words and, by rehabilitation techniques, he started to enjoy eating independently. For about three weeks, he could eat until the day before he died. Discussion: Eating behavior could be influenced by proper way of rehabilitation. Conclusion: ADL observation and non-verbal communication could be an effective rehabilitation approach to stimulate feeding behavior resulting in the improvement of patient's QOL.

ABSTRACT

To refer to an object or event by providing its corresponding name is an important acquisition in the learning of verbal behavior. The relationship between the spoken name and its referent, called tact, is considered essential in the expansion of verbal repertoires in children. This study aimed to teach tact to four institutionalized children, aged between 26 and 29 months, with reduced exposure to verbal stimulation. The procedure introduced playful characteristics into the teaching of tact and the required repertoire, which was the emission of echoic responses, through procedures typically used to teach verbal repertoire for children with language delay. All children learned to tact (and echo). The procedure was effective in increasing the echoic repertoire and promoting the acquisition of the tact repertoire. These results confirm the literature that considers learning echoic repertoire to be a requirement for the acquisition of tact...

Todas as crianças aprenderam a tatear (e ecoar).
